Supporting neurodivergent colleagues doesn’t need to be complicated. Often, it’s small, everyday actions that make the biggest difference. Here are five ways every union member can help build a workplace without barriers:
Listen and learn
Start by understanding what neurodiversity means. Take time to read, watch, or listen to resources — including those from this campaign. The more we learn, the more we can support each other.
Challenge assumptions
If you hear myths like “they want special treatment” or “they’re not suited for that job,” speak up. Inclusion is about fairness, not favours.
Support adjustments
Small changes, like flexible working, clear instructions, or quieter spaces, can have a huge impact. Let’s support and normalise these adjustments.
Promote inclusive communication
Clear, respectful communication helps everyone — not just neurodivergent colleagues. It’s something we can all practice.
Stand together
Support policies and campaigns that push for inclusive workplaces. When union members act together, we can drive real change.
