Reporting sexual harassment can feel daunting, but your union is here to help. You have a right to a workplace that is safe, respectful and free from abuse, and you’re not alone in standing up for that.

Here’s how the reporting process typically works:

1️⃣ Speak to your union rep.
Your rep is your first point of support. They’ll listen confidentially and help you understand your rights and options. There’s no pressure, you stay in control.

2️⃣ Record what happened.
Write down what took place, including dates, times, locations and any witnesses. Keep emails, texts or messages if relevant.

3️⃣ Explore your options.
Your rep can guide you through choices such as:

  • Informal action (e.g. asking for the behaviour to stop)
  • Raising a formal grievance
  • Involving HR or senior management
  • Escalating externally if needed

4️⃣ Let your rep support you through the process.
They can help you draft statements, attend meetings, and ensure fair treatment. They can also help protect you from retaliation.

5️⃣ Access ongoing support.
Unions can signpost counselling, help with adjustments to your work environment, and assist in rebuilding confidence.

Remember: Reporting is your right, and your union is here to back you every step of the way.
