Executive Committee
The Aegis Executive shall:The General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary roles are full-time electable roles which are also subject to the selection and recruitment process to ensure that anyone standing for election is capable of taking on the position. These positions are electable every four years and are open to all members of Aegis. They are high-profile roles, some of which people take on in either full-time or in addition to their day jobs. Whilst Fiona, Donna, Neil and Brian are full-time Aegis Officers, Stuart works as a Market ntelligence Analyst at Head Office, and Bill is a Customer Services Representative in Openwork. The Executive meet regularly at strategy meetings to agree what Aegis should be doing on a tactical level, whereas the Central Council is responsible for the decision-making and policy-setting.
- regulate its own affairs subject to Aegis’ objectives and rules
- follow the transition rule in the Aegis constitution
- engage and pay for any services it needs, for example administration and consultancy services
- form part of Aegis’ appeals procedure
- determine Aegis’ position on all subjects on which we consult or negotiate with the company
- recommend the investment of surplus funds to the trustees
- form Aegis’ negotiating team - consisting of the General Secretary, the Consultant (where appropriate) and/or a specialist and up to four other members of the Executive Committee
- decide on the level of support Aegis will give former employees in dispute with the company
- take disciplinary action against members if required
- instruct additional central council meetings if required
- co-opt members of transferring companies onto central council
- administer AGMs and SGMs
- ensure its seconded members are Aegis trustees
- be involved at second stage investigations of any members’ complaints around Aegis not following its own rules
- give written approval for official industrial action which does not include withdrawal of labour
- ensure Aegis complies with statutory requirements before contemplating industrial action
