Job/position:
Senior Business Analyst, Legacy - Claims Team

What does your job with AEGON involve?
I’m a senior business analyst working in the Legacy department or Customer Review as it is now called. The job is making sure our customers are not losing out because of problems with our systems and paying out redress money when they have been affected. We are also making sure our systems are being changed to ensure we don’t have a Legacy 2!

I am also a member-nominated Trustee of the company pension scheme and though I am pretty new at it, it is giving me a wider insight into how the company operates.

What do you like best about it?
I am seeing system problems raised years ago, now being worked on. We always felt that these problems would never be fixed! It is also making sure that we are treating customers fairly now and in the future.

What do you think makes you good at it?
I have a lot of experience, gained over the past 11 years. We have had to put in many workarounds so that the policies affected could be dealt with. I worked in the business units, training, answering questions and getting involved as area rep on various projects, so I feel I have a lot to give this new department.

How can you use this strength to benefit/help our members?
I think I have a good knowledge of our business and I can relate to people on all levels. I have a lot of empathy with most of our members and have been able to use my experience on the dealings I have had with our members so far.

What’s the most important thing about being a union Rep as far as you are concerned?
Helping to ensure that our members are well represented in everything the company plans to do, and making sure that our members are treated fairly at all times. In the current climate I think we will be needed more than ever and we need to make sure that staff are aware of what we do and how much we can help.
