Job/position:
Section Manager, Contact Centre 5

What does your job with AEGON involve?
On Mondays and Tuesdays I manage a team of thirteen staff in the Individual Contact Centre, job-sharing with another section manager, and for the rest of the week I work in quality control, ensuring that the work we produce meets our standards.

What do you like best about it?
I really like working with people and I enjoy taking on responsibility and dealing with the challenging situations that people management can throw at you.

What do you think makes you good at it?
I think I'm a very fair person yet I can also be sympathetic and understanding. I also like passing on knowledge that I've gained so it helps others.

How can you use this strength to benefit/help our members?
I think to be a Rep you have to believe in fairness, and my union training has really helped me see problems and situations from all angles. You won't help members properly if you're not objective enough.

What's the most important thing about being a union Rep as far as you're concerned?
Not everyone can speak up for themselves and I think it's really important that companies have trained Reps like me who can do this for them when it counts. Members have to feel they have someone there to support them and look after their interests at work.

Have you ever ...

... thought of becoming active in your union? There are several areas of the business where we need Reps, but you don't have to become a Rep to get involved. Speak to us to find out more!
